Hogue Riesling 2006
During the grape growing season, Eastern Washington boasts warm summer days followed by cool nights, ensuring that grapes ripen fully while retaining ample natural acidity. That even ripening gives Washington State Rieslings a trademark apricot and tangerine flavor that sets them apart. The 2005 Riesling opens with a mlange of aromas: orange blossom, jasmine, dried apricot, and tangerine. The palate is creamy, with apricot flavors. A naturally crisp acidity balances the slight sweetness, providing a refreshing finish. The winemakers recommend pairing the Riesling with a chefs salad, fresh spring rolls or sushi. Wine Spectator Soft and fragrant, with peach and pear notes that harmonize beautifully through the long, off-dry finish. Drink now through 2009. Score: 88. —Harvey Steiman, June 30, 2007.Wine Enthusiast With 14% Gewürztraminer in the blend, and almost 2% residual sugar, this is a popular tasting-room wine. It’s got a lightly pleasing streak of tea, and if you like a little lemon in your ice tea you’ll like this wine. Clean and showing surprising length, it should be chilled down to boost its backbone.
