Clarendon Hills Blewitt Springs Vineyard Old Vines Grenache 2004
This vineyard is in the Blewitt Springs area and always produces deeply coloured and very rich wine with full upfront raspberry fruit and a long aftertaste with abundant tannin in the finish. This wine repays cellaring very well. Wine Advocate As usual for this cuvee, the 2004 Grenache Blewitt Springs possesses an extraordinary, exotic, flamboyant personality that causes Roman Bratasiuk to say it’s his “Dolly Parton-styled wine.â€? Terrific notes of blackberries, raspberries, and rich kirsch liqueur are accompanied by an opulent, flamboyant wine with tremendous viscosity and richness as well as a lusty, heady finish. In short, it’s a mouthfilling, full-bodied red to drink during its first 5-7 years of life. Score: 93. —Robert Parker, October 2006.Wine Spectator Firm tannins provide grip for the dense blackberry and plum flavors, which turn distinctly peppery and aromatic on the long, pointed finish. Needs time to flesh out, but it has the goods. Best from 2008 through 2016. 500 cases imported. Score: 93. —Harvey Steiman, October 15, 2006. Wine Enthusiast This wine boasts fantastic spice-drop character on the nose, seamlessly blending bold blackberry and plum fruit with notes of anise and licorice. It’s lush and richly textured in the mouth, with a long, spice-driven finish. A wine that’s wonderfully exotic and approachable now, but one that should last up to 10 years. Score: 93. —Joe Czerwinski, December 15, 2006. All sizes are 750mL unless otherwise noted. |
