The idea for this wine comes from Erik and Alex Bartholomaus. Alex, a wine importer, wanted to pay homage to his late mother who had an untimely death at the tender age of 58, due to cancer. So after tasting a delicious Chilean blend of wines, Alex got the idea of doing this in a fun way by selling a wine and donating proceeds of the sales of the wine in her name to various charities. First he needed a label so he enlisted the aide of his brother. Alex asked Erik, an accomplished artist and world traveling tattoo artist, to draw a tattoo that would be interesting but not too serious, and would remind them of their mother. In trying to keep the theme for the wine not too serious, they came up with the name Big Tattoo Red, Alex and Erik will be donating 50 cents a bottle to the Hospice of Northern Virginia and the American Breast Cancer Foundation in the name of Liliana S. Bartholomaus. After the limited supply of wine is sold out, the proceeds will be divided evenly between these two foundations. With your support Alex and Erik can donate almost $75,000 from the sales of their first release of Big Tattoo Red. With the success of Big Tattoo Red, more wine and additional donations will be made in the future. Alex and Erik thank you for picking up a bottle of this wine to honor their mother.
