Neal Rosenthal is one of favorite importers. If his name is on the bottle you can be guaranteed the wine will be a first class representative of its regional and grape heritage. His close working relationship with his producers is legendary, but when winemaker Pier Luigi Lugano told him a few years back that he had planted some Grenache vines, Neal told him that he would not be interested in an Italian Grenache grown in the hills of Cinque Terre, a land known for it's small production of white wine. Last year Pier Luigi asked Neal to taste something without telling him what it was. Neal loved it and said he would commit to any quantity he could get, and was a little embarrassed when he learned it was unveiled as the Grenache he had been told of years earlier.
